About the OET Reading Guide Part II

Here at IELTS Medical, we offer a range of textbooks to help you further your career in Healthcare. One of the textbooks we offer is OET Reading Guide for all professions Volume II. This updated textbook is a guide to the current version of the reading subtest of the Occupational English Test. It contains everything you need to know to pass your OET Reading exam.

What can I expect in the Reading subtest of the OET exam?

The OET Reading exam is split into 3 parts. You are given 15 minutes to complete OET Reading Part A, there are a total of 20 questions that you are expected to answer. There will be 4 short texts (approximately 650 words) and you will be expected to locate the correct information quickly. Your answers will be marked by a combination of trained OET assessor at the OET centre in Melbourne and a computer.

For OET Reading Part B, you are given 6-10 minutes to read through 6 short extracts. You will be expected to answer a multiple-choice question for each. These extracts are likely to be found in the workplace e.g. memos, emails and journal extracts.

Lastly, for OET Reading Part C you are allocated the remainder of 45 minutes to read through 2 long texts that are not thematically related to one another. You will have a total of 8 multiple choice questions to answer for each text.

The OET has been designed for the following 12 healthcare professions:
