I’ve got three ways to show you today how you can easily learn any foreigner languages you want to. Before going into details, you can read about what benefits you will have when speaking more than one language.

What are the benefits of language learning?

You can ask yourself: “why is it worth sacrificing my free time for learning a new language?” There are many benefits of learning languages. One of the perks of speaking more than one language is that it can help in your career. Several employers are looking for people specifically who are bilingual, or at least speak two languages. You may get a call back from a job interview because of your language skills. Furthermore, it can improve your memory and brain functions; you will see that you will remember more things in your every day life when you train your brain with learning a language. Last but not least, when you speak an other language than your mother tounge, it opens the world for you! There will be many new people and situations you will come across because of the new language you picked up.

1. Make language learning a daily habit

Daily habits are key to behaviour change. Once you form them, you don’t need to rely on willpower or motivation. A habit is usually made up of three components: a cue, a routine and a reward.

The cue sets the behaviour into action. For language learning, I recommend simply setting daily reminders in your online calendar or just make some reminders in your notebook. The routine is the actual behaviour that you perform in response to the cue. When you start, make the routines easy – things like opening your language app, or revising 5 words from your last lesson. The reality is you only need 15 minutes a day to make progress, and surely you have that! Lastly, reward yourself in some way as the positive reinforcement will increase your chances of success. This could mean treating yourself to something, but for many people just noticing their progress is enough of a reward to reinforce the habit.

2. Speak from day one

Speaking the language you want to learn is the best way to improve your skills. It doesn’t matter if you make mistakes: practice makes perfect! There are three main options here:

- Find native speakers to converse with. Visit Meetup.com for example; sites like this often have language exchange meetings that you can attend.

- Go to group classes. You can learn and make friends at the same time.

- Take 1-on-1 lessons. This is the most efficient option, at the same time the cost can be a little higher. However, if you are taking the lessons online – such as with Duolinguo– this isn’t always the case. It’s also worth to mention that you’ll be able to get extensive speaking practice with an experienced, native tutor.

3. Use free sources

There are different sources you should use at different levels, but learning a language online from home is a good idea at any stages! Radio and podcasts are the best when you have at least an intermediate level, but TV and films are preferable at the start because the images provide you with context that helps you understand the language. Watching the international news is specifically recommended. You will have a better chance of understanding because news presenters speak very clearly. Also, you will have lot of knowledge about some international news stories. The images, combined with the clear speech and your background knowledge, will improve your vocabulary sooner than you would expect! Radio and foreign podcasts are great because you can listen to them while doing other things.

As you can see, there are many cost-effective ways to learn languages. It depends on your time, budget, and determination which option you choose. The most important thing is to start learning the language you chose today! You will see result in no time.
