100% CBT (NMC) pass rate

100% CBT (NMC) pass rate

The journey to NMC registration for overseas qualified nurses can be rather lengthy. If you are an EU nurse, your journey to registration consists of proof of English language proficiency. For overseas nurses, it is a longer process with a additional requirement in the form of the CBT and the OSCE. Since the English language requirement change in November 2017, however, the IELTS/OET exam is no longer a pre-requisite to registering for the CBT.

The CBT stands for Computer Based Test. Likened to the UK driving theory test, it is multiple choice and available at the applicants’ nearest available Pearson VUE test centre. The test is of core nursing skills and includes scenarios that test for communication, reasoning and decision making skills that the nurse would need to apply within a clinic setting. There are 4 domains that the NMC test: Professional values; Communication and Interpersonal skills; Nursing Practice and Decision Making and Leadership Management and Team working. These are subsets of the area of practice – Adult (general); Children; Learning Disability; Mental Health and Midwifery.

Since its inception in autumn 2014, over thirteen thousand CBT tests have been successfully registered with an overall pass rate of 76%. Of the 24% that fail to achieve the desired scores, the issues cited include a lack of timing, failure to interpret the questions correctly, or inability to complete calculations required of them.

Here at IELTS Medical, we deliver a comprehensive CBT course for nurses by nurses. Completed within 3-5 working days, we go through each domain and question type you’ll meet on the big day. Our trainer assesses the individual nurse’s abilities against the NMC’s standard, before tailoring a course to meet their needs. The overall pass rate for the NMC may be 76%, but here at IELTS Medical, our CBT pass rate is 100% and we intend to keep it that way.
