What is the MRCGP?
The MRCGP (Membership of Royal College of General Practitioners) is the medical qualification that confirms a doctor can practise as a GP here in the UK.
The exam consists of 13 clinical and communication stations between the AKT (Applied Knowledge Test) and the RCA (Recorded Consultations Assessment), which momentarily replace the CSA (Clinical Skills Assessment) due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Changes to pathway due to pandemic
The GMC MRCGP usually consists of the AKT and the CSA, but because of the COVID-19 restrictions you are not able to take it at the Royal College of General Practitioners head office so the Clinical Skills Assessment has been replaced by the Recorded Consultations Assessment for the time being.
For this type of assessment, you will have to provide pre-recorded video and audio as evidence to support you application to be a GP. It will be recorded within your workplace and assessed remotely; this is most likely going to be occurring for the foreseeable future.
