What Should I Wear to the NMC OSCE exam? ... Christina explains it all
One of our Frequently Asked Questions is what to wear for the NMC OSCE Exam and it's a good question. After all, this is one of the most important exam that a nurse will take, so the last thing you want to worry about is what to wear.
Should I wear a uniform?
There are many options to choose from and it's a lot easier if you're already working as a healthcare assistant before you take your NMC OSCE exam. That means that you will likely have access to your uniform. Similiary, if you worked as a nurse in your home country, then you will likely have scrubs or your old uniform. If you have none of these, then rest assured that you can take your NMC OSCE exam dressed in "smart casual" wear. This means that a smart top and trousers will be fine. Shirts are not recommended - as nurses need to be bare below the elbow.
What about my shoes?
Smart, plain coloured shoes are required. Black / dark colours are ideal and no heels - the type of shoes you'd be comfortable wearing on the ward.
What about my hair?
Your hair needs to be off the shoulders ie. short or tied up if it's longer than shoulder length.
Do I need to wear a mask?
Yes, you will need to wear a mask, so ideally get used to including a mask in your OSCE-wear.
