UK Heatwave

The UK is experiencing an ongoing heatwave, this has come as a shock to many UK residents as heatwaves are much more commonly associated with the summer months of July and August in the UK, September is usually associated with a sense of the end of Summer and the beginning of Autumn.
Temperatures have been going higher than 30 degrees Celsius in many areas of the UK, the highest recorded temperature in this current heatwave was 32.2 degrees Celsius in Surrey, in the South East.
Temperatures are expected to drop from 11/09 in many areas of the UK, however heat levels are expected to remain high in the South East of England and London. It’s important in the coming week to remain vigilant and be careful to not overexpose yourself to sunlight and high levels of heat.
The heatwave can be enjoyed though, many UK residents like to try and go out and about to enjoy warmer weather when possible. Ideas for getting out and enjoying the weather include going to a park, finding a spot somewhere in the shade, having a BBQ or picnic or even going to the beach!
Brighton is one popular seaside destination that Londoners often visit for the day, its only a couple of hours south of the capital.
It’s extremely important to do what you can to keep cool in these high levels of heat, here are some suggestions:
- Drink plenty of water throughout the day
- Avoid being in direct sunlight
- Stay indoors during peak hours of the day (11am – 3pm)
- Wear light, airy clothes
- Keep children well hydrated
- Move around slightly slower
- Apply suncream
