One thing to remember when looking to take your plab 1 it is not purely based around knowledge, but more around applied knowledge. It is not simply enough to know the information - it tests your application of core knowledge. Which will be based around scenarios and situations that you may be faced within the UK medical practice, whether clinically, ethically or evidence-based. This requires a certain amount of thinking and putting yourself into the situation.

Setting yourself targets and deadlines will be crucial during your revision stages. You should ensure you are putting a topic and a deadline to cover this subject. Sometimes it is also easier to revise with a group of people in order to test your knowledge and understanding. This means they can point out what topics you may want to look over again. Another thing to consider is The small words in these questions can change the answer in a big way – ‘usually’, ‘commonly’, ‘most often’ are examples of words that may change the answer to something else – don’t miss them in eagerness to tick the right answer.

You should also try and take mock tests as these will help you to get out of your comfort zone, and prepare for the real thing. As you won't be able to take your time in the exam there is only a certain amount of time for each question. It is better to get used to exam pressures now rather than later as it will help you be more focused and concentrate better,

Another tip to consider is even though it may be the nicer route you should not invest too much time revising the topics you know. Be sure to keep testing your ability and work on the areas you struggle from the beginning. It will make it a lot easier for you in the long run and it is much more beneficial, as soon you will be fully confident!
