Tips and tricks for learning a new language

It’s true that people have a different way of learning. When it comes to learning a language, we have put together a few tips to learn quickly and retain your skills long term. At IELTS Medical we offer English courses (IELTS and OET) to boost your way through the general language requirements in the medical field in the UK.

Make learning an every day routine. Practise makes perfect. This will help you build a good foundation. We live in times where learning digitally is easy. We suggest you download a language app such as “Babble” to make it more fun, and fast flowing. The more you form a new habit, the more of a routine falls into place. Next up, infuse your learning into your every day life. For example, when cooking, learn all the ingredient names and kitchen terms in your new language.

This tip is probably the most important. Absorb the culture. Basically, what this means is that when you are learning a language, get involved with music, movies or TV programs and books to learn about the culture and phrases. What tops books or movies is buying a flight to that specific destination and getting right in amongst the language and culture.

Its very important that you personalise your learning. Learn at your own pace. Don’t recite things you already know, or phrases that you will never use. Visualise your success. By setting goals and achieving these goals, they will motivate to keep learning exponentially. Imagine the kind of person you can become and the types of experiences you can have with a new language.

At IETLS Medical we encourage you to take the English courses we offer and get you on top of your medical game so you can thrive working in the UK. If you utilise these tips, you will be well on your way to speaking a new language before you ever imagined it.
