The NMC launches consultation on English Language requirements

- By (36 articles)
The NMC has announced that they have launched a new consultation giving people the opportunity to have their say on the proposed changes to their English language requirements. The have mentioned that the consultation will run for eight weeks from the 17/06/2022 up until 12/08/2022.
The NMC frequently reviews all their regulatory standards and requirements. They have come to the understanding that nurses, nursing associates and midwives are having concerns about if the current requirements for English language are fair and reliable for everyone. The consultation follows several months of collaboration with professionals, partners and stakeholders to gather initial views and build a clear evidence base for change.
What are the NMC consulting on?
The NMC are consulting on two specific areas. The first one being their approach to testing. The second approach that the NMC is consulting on is whether they should consider accepting alternative evidence of English language competence. This could include employer references, evidence of unregulated practise in the UK health and care settings, or postgraduate qualifications that people studied in the English language.
The NMC has created a survey to see the thoughts of nurses, nursing associates and midwives. Share your thoughts today by filling out their online survey which only takes a few minutes. The closing date for the consultation is on Friday the 12th August 2022. Visit here for the survey https://www.nmc.org.uk/registration/joining-the-register/english-language-consultation/
