Test of Competence 2021 for nurses and midwives

The NMC has stated that all legacy tests, whether that is the CBT or OSCE, will need to be taken before the 31st of July 2022. If you are unable to take the tests or pass before the cut-off date, you will then have to take the new test of competence 2021.
The new CBT is split into two parts: Part A covers numeracy and Part B covers clinical questions for midwifery or nursing.

Part two of the Test of Competence is a practical exam known as the OSCE which stands for Objective Structured Clinical Examination. In this part you'll be tested on your clinical and communication skills. The new OSCE has no longer has six stations instead it has ten, this is to assess additional skills as well as a nurse, midwives’ and nurse associates’ values and behaviours, and evidence-based practice.
The new OSCE has 10 stations:
- Four stations will continue to be linked together around a scenario: the APIE (one station for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation)
- Four stations to test skills (two pairs of two skills)
- Two new stations to assess the candidate's values and behaviours and evidence-based practice.
If you are taking the old OSCE and want preparation, make sure to get yourself registered on a course before July. The earliest available course date is the 25th May.
