Introduction to PLAB 1: PLAB is an acronym for Professional linguistics Assessment boards. PLAB 1 is a theoretical exam that can be taken online from most places in the world. This exam is taken after a doctor has passed their language exam (either IELTS or OET) and there and only four dates to sit the exam per year. The PLAB 1 exam is a written exam that consists of 180 multiple choice questions that must be completed within three hours. The exams will cost £280.00
The exam tests a doctor’s application of medical knowledge to clinical practice. The questions are more focused on diagnosis and management. Each question in the exam begins with a short scene which is then followed by a question. The doctor sitting the exam will need to choose the right answer out of the five possible answers given.
The first step: Before you can take your PLAB 1 exam you will need to pass your IELTS/OET exam to prove to the GMC that your English is good enough to practice medicine in the UK. The IELTS exam will test your knowledge of general/academic English whereas the OET exam will test your knowledge of medical English.
The exam must be taken within two years of you passing your language test, at IELTS medical we provide courses to help prepare doctors and nurses for both exams. If you fail to do so then you will have to re-sit your language test before you can take your PLAB 1 examination. The following courses will help you prepare for your language exam. We offer an IELTS/OET course for 3, 6 or 12 weeks. This is a pre-scheduled course that takes place four days a week, for five hours each day. This course can be done in our centre or online from your home country. The costs of the courses are listed below:

We also offer flex courses, if you choose this option then you can schedule your classes around your availability. This course is a one-to-one session with a tutor and each session lasts for an hour. The sessions can be done online or at our centre.

Our courses that will help you prepare for PLAB 1: For PLAB 1 we offer a one-day crash course that lasts for eight hours and is taught by an experienced doctor. This is course is pre-scheduled and the doctors who choose to attend will get access to some online materials. You can attend the course online or at our centre that is based in central London.

In addition to our one-day course, we also provide a four-day PLAB 1 booster that will cover all of the general topics in order to pass the computer-based theory examination. You will then be given a mock examination to test your knowledge and understanding with a debriefing session afterwards that highlights any areas that you need to work on in order to ensure success on your examination day.
We also provide PLAB 1 flex sessions that are booked in a block of five sessions, similar to the ILETS/OET flex sessions the PLAB 1 flex sessions can also be scheduled around your availability and be done online. As standard, each flex session is one hour long. The cost of this course is £407.00
