Record high NHS waiting times

The UK’s universally available healthcare service (NHS) has been going through a sustained period of strain and stress since the covid-19 pandemic began affecting the global community in early 2020. As of summer 2023, the NHS is still recovering and waiting lists have hit an all time high.

7.47 million people were waiting to start routine treatment at the end of May 2023, this is an increase, up from 7.42 million for the month of April. Out of the 7.47 million people waiting for treatment, 385,000 of these had been waiting for more than a year.

These figures are the highest recorded number for the NHS since records began in 2007 and represents a real challenge to the service. Continuously this figure has increased since the beginning of the covid-19 pandemic.

The NHS will recover from this slump, with your skills and commitment we can do this.
