The importance of Mental health

Mental health refers to your emotional, physical and psychological well-being. It impacts how you think and act as you cope with life. It is essential to keep your mental state in tip-top shape. When you go to sleep at night, although the body relaxes, your mind keeps going.

Depression is one of the leading mental health conditions in the world. Other conditions include anxiety, stress, mood disorders, eating disorders, OCD, Alzheimer’s, loneliness and memory loss.

Many factors affect your mental health. These include biological factors, such as genetics, family history of mental health conditions, your lifestyle and life experiences. During stressful times you may be overwhelmed or unable to cope with it. Your mental state can change over time. Whether there are situational struggles or therapy and medication your mental health fluctuates or stabilises. It is always changing.

There are many signs to know if you are experiencing mental health problems. These include struggling to sleep, low energy, withdrawal from activities, feeling sad, anxious and confused, not being able to perform daily tasks, feeling helpless and hopeless and thinking of self-harm. If you think you have mental health problems it is essential to get help such as therapy and medicines to lift your spirits and get you back on track.

It is so important to positively affect your mental health stability. Therapy, drawing, journaling, yoga and meditation, medication and exercise are just a few examples of ways to improve your mental state. The good thing is you can get better and even recover fully. Mental health is not a destination but a process. It's about how you drive, not where you are going.
