What is the OET for Doctors?

The Occupational English Test (OET) is a language exam specifically designed for doctors based on tasks that doctors complete every day. It test your Listening; Reading; Speaking and Writing in a healthcare context which makes it different from the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). Crucially, the exam is accepted by the General Medical Council (GMC) as proof of a doctor’s proficiency in English and because the emphasis is on medicine, doctors tend to prefer it. The GMC require a B in OET Listening; Reading; Speaking and Writing and all grades must be achieved in one sitting making it a formidable exam.

Where can I study OET for Doctors in-person?

Here at IELTS Medical, we have courses for doctors wishing to pass the OET (Medicine). Doctors study here in small groups, in-person either 4-days a week (Monday to Thursday or Friday to Monday) from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm for 3, 6 or 12 week courses or 1:1 at a time that suits you via our OET Flex service. OET Flex packages are 10, 20 or 30 sessions (hours) long and allow you to arrange your OET sessions anytime between 10:00 am to 9:15pm Monday to Friday and 10:00 am to 3:00 pm on Saturday or Sunday.

Will I receive OET books and learning materials?

Yes, we provide OET books and learning materials as standard to all OET doctors studying on our OET (Medicine) courses. We have an extensive range of OET books and recourses to help you with your OET Preparation. This includes books such as the OET Complete Coursebook for Doctors and OET Writing Guide for Doctors. We also stock the OET Listening Guides Volume I and Volume II as well as OET Reading Guides to supplement your learning.
