IELTS Or OET - How Do You Decide?

It can be very difficult choosing between the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) and the Occupational English Test (OET) for medical professionals. This is because the General Medical Council (GMC) regulating doctors and the Nursing and Midwifery Council regulating nurses accept both. Healthcare professionals may feel spoilt for choice...
Here are some quick facts about each exam:
IELTS
The IELTS Is an Academic English exam covering a wide range of topics from Geography to Music to Finance to History. Its topics are like a box of chocolates... you never know what you're going to get!
Lower test fees: To take the IELTS test is approx. £150 - £195 depending on where you take it whereas the OET is $587 AUD (or approx. £320).
OET
The Occupational English Test is a Medical English exam that tests healthcare professionals using real world scenarios.
According to the OET, their pass rates are higher than IELTS' - their statistics say that for every 1 person who passes IELTS, 4 pass the OET.
