To start practising as a doctor in the UK you must follow these steps.
If you are a doctor who has completed your medical degree/qualification outside of the UK, you should first register with the GMC.
Requirements for registration: Proof of your medical degree/qualification. Your passport. Finances – GMC registration is approximately £1,540 – includes GMC, PLAB 1 and PLAB 2.
In order to register online: you must create a GMC online account and afterwards you should submit you documents and pay the evaluation fee. The GMC will send you a response within 14 days. You will also receive an application number.
English exams: The next step will be to complete the English exams. You can choose to complete IELTS or OET. The difference between both exams is that the OET tests your ability to communicate in English in a healthcare setting. Whereas IELTS tests your overall ability to communicate in Academic English language.
PLAB 1 & PLAB 2: you must pass both exams in order to continue with your application. This exam is taken after a doctor has passed their language exam (IELTS & OET). This exam tests a doctor’s application of your knowledge to the care of patients at Foundation Year 2 level in the UK.
