International doctors and nurses may not be aware of the endless opportunities and benefits of working for the NHS. Nurses and doctors in the UK work for the government which is the National Health Service. It publicly funded health system by the government from the general tax system.
Everyone’s salary can increase through extra training and responsibilities when you specialise in your career. The longer you work for the NHS the more annual leave you earn. You are entitled to 27 days annual leave with 8 bank holidays on top of your annual leave. That’s 35 days of annual leave minimum per year. After +10 years you have up to 33 days of annual leave with 8 extra days of bank holidays.
Employees that are pregnant are entitled to 1-year of maternity leave when the baby is born. Fathers are entitled to a 2-week paternity leave. Parents can share the 1-year maternity leave between them. You are also entitled to 18 weeks of unpaid parental leave for children under the age of 18.
NHS employers are entitled to discounts with many shops and services. These include restaurants, hotels as well and shops and services. You will be pleasantly surprised how many do offer discounts. You can save a lot of money when taking holiday breaks in the UK, or shopping at Zara or Tesco’s, loads of companies offer NHS discounts.
