Are you an overseas qualified nurse who is looking to move to the UK and practise here? If so, there are a number of things to remember and be aware of.

Remembering all of this information and making sure you are making the correct decisions is tricky and can become overwhelming quickly. We at IELTS Medical understand this, this blog post is to highlight an element of the moving process that may not be at the forefront of your mind. This is the British Citizenship Test.

The test covers:
- Values and principles of the UK.
- The history of the country.
- The modern UK society.
- The government in the UK.
The British Citizenship Test costs £50 to sit, and contains 24 questions over a 45-minute period, 75% of correct answers meet the criteria for a pass, which works out as 18 correct answers. The 24 questions are randomly selected from a database of over 1000 questions.
It is important to revise for the test and not rush the answers you provide. The study guide that can be purchased along with enrolment for the exam is extremely useful and covers all relevant information that you can expect to encounter in the test.

When booking:
- Book at least 3 days in advance
- Email address
- Payment – Debit/Credit card
- ID – Passport/ Driving licence/ EU identity card
Potential exemptions: Exemptions apply if you meet the following classifications.
- Under 18 or over 65.
- If you have passed the test previously
- Have a long term physical or mental health condition, confirmed with a doctor’s letter.
Which includes:
Sufferers of long-term illness or disability that impacts their abilities to prepare and take the test.
Has a mental condition that prevents them from learning/speaking English to the required standard.
