RCA exam for doctors has started

The RCA exam started on the 7th of May which means the second part of the MRCGP exam is underway.

The first part of this exam was the AKT which is a knowledge-based exam.  After you have completed this you will then move on to the RCA which is Recorded Consultation Assessment.

Summary of the exam

In the RCA, your ability to gather information and apply learned understanding of disease processes will be tested.

Then, after gathering all of this information, you will need to make a decision, as the doctor, on which is the most effective treatment for your patient to have.

Key thing to remember for this exam

·         All through this exam you must communicate effectively with patients and colleagues

 ·         The best way to prepare for your exam is to see patients in general practice. You will gain evidence of your progression from your WPBA observations

 ·         Feedback from your Clinical and Educational Supervisors is very important as this way you can understand the areas you need to improve on.

 ·         The RCA is marketed in a different way to the CSA but following similar criteria.

 ·         The doctors will gain marks by using the three main domains which are data gathering, clinical management and interpersonal skills.

 ·         Each domain will get an individual grade that ranges between Clear Pass / Pass / Fail or Clear Fail.

 ·         Look at the mark scheme so you can understand how you will gain and loss marks throughout the exam.

Exam dates/Results

The exam starts from the 7th of May and the final exam data is the 28th of May.

Once all the exams have been filmed, they are then sent off to be marked and then the results are given to the doctors on the 10th of June.
