What are the new changes in the OSCE exam?

As you may already know, the NMC is changing its registration exams, and this will affect the way you become a registered nurse here in the UK.

Why are these changes happening?

These changes are happening to reflect the ones that are happening in UK nursing practice.

The NMC wants the test to be as close as possible to the reality of the field.

When do they start?

The NMC updates its standards with its clinical editors every year and has agreed to implement changes to the CBT (Test of Competence 1) and OSCE (Test of Competence 2) starting April 2021.

Changes in OSCE

    • The NMC has increased the total number of exam stations from 6 to 10.
    • Four stations will continue to be linked together around a scenario: the APIE (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, they will each have a specific station).
    • Six skill stations will be tested instead of two.
