Mental Health Nursing for International applicants - NHS Jobs
To become a fully qualified mental health nurse, you must first get your OSCE and your CBT qualifications in Mental Health Nursing. IELTS Medical now offers extensive training and courses for those hoping to take either of these exams in order to become a fully qualified mental health nurse.
Before this, there are two requirements that must be met. The first is a BSc or Diploma in mental health nursing from outside the UK. The second is the desire to relocate to the UK, in order to practice as a UK pin-registered mental health nurse here.
Recruitment is a fairly simple process which will take 8 – 18 months to finalise; dependant on how long it takes you to complete the necessary requirements.
Steps are as follows:
1. NMC registration
a. English requirements test (IELTS or OET).
b. Take the Mental Health CBT and OSCE exams.
c. Wait for NMC approval.
2. Interview + job offer.
3. Pre employment check – provide necessary documents.
4. Get your allocation.
5. Sponsorship Certificate and Visa.
6. Arrive in the UK and start your induction training!
NHS - Minimum contract of 3 years – if you leave before 12 months you will be required to repay the relocation cost that the NHS paid for you.
A salary advance of £500 is given on arrival to the UK to cover this cost as well as OET costs. This is to be paid back over 12 months.
*No need to be a mental health professional back home – general adult Nurse is acceptable. Experience is essential however - minimum of 1 year.
You will need to have the following skills: Communication, teamwork, leadership; decision making skills, resilience, compatibility.
