Moving overseas and starting over in a new country may be one of the scariest and most thrilling experiences you may ever have. Moving to a new country is never simple; balancing what to anticipate from your future position, attempting to adjust to the atmosphere, and familiarising oneself with visa regulations.

The National Health Service (NHS), which is managed by the UK government, is the largest employer in the UK. The General Medical Council is the regulating body (GMC) for doctors in the UK.

GMC registration is required to work for the NHS or a Private Healthcare Organization.

There are several paths you may pursue to obtain your GMC. The path you choose will be determined by your present medical credentials.

GMC registration is intended to guarantee that all doctors in the UK fulfil the high standards necessary for medical practise here.

In many circumstances, you may need to complete additional examinations before you can practise in the UK.

PLAB:

The PLAB is one of the examinations; if you graduated from a medical school outside of the United Kingdom, European Economic Area (EEA), or Switzerland, you will most likely be required to take the PLAB.

The Professional and Linguistic Assessment Board (PLAB) test consists of two sections, both of which must be passed.

The first stage is a three-hour test that you can take before coming to the UK. The second phase is completed in person in the United Kingdom. You may need to obtain a travel visa to do so.

IELTS/OET:

You must also demonstrate a high degree of competency in your ability to communicate in English, in addition to the PLAB. The GMC requires both the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) and the Occupational English Test (OET) tests. The OET assesses your ability to communicate in English in a healthcare context, whereas the IELTS assesses your overall communication competence in English.
