What Are The Changes in The Test Of Competence in August 2021?

At IELTS Medical, we are preparing our new curriculum for our NMC Training and Review CBT course starting 15/08/2021 – 18/07/2021 and our NMC Training and Review OSCE course starting 07/07/2021 – 09/07/2021.

The new curriculum will be introduced from August 2021.

What are the new changes for CBT?

The Computer-Based Test (CBT) will now be split into two parts:

·         Part A will cover numeracy,

·         Part B will cover nursing or midwifery theory.

What are the new changes for OSCE?

The Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) will have 10 stations:

·         Four stations will continue to be linked together around a scenario: the APIE (one station for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation)

·         Four stations will test skills - two pairs of two skills

·       Two new stations will be introduced - one will assess the candidate's values and behaviours and the other will assess evidence-based practice.

New OSCE marking criteria - each station will be assessed against an updated list of relevant criteria.

Updated test content – the NMC has worked with clinical partners to review the existing bank of examination materials and develop new material.

The Test Of Competence (TOC) is the CBT and OSCE combined. This means that if you have taken the current CBT before August 2021, you will NOT need to take the new OSCE!

To book your CBT or OSCE exam before August 2021, you will need to make sure you are prepared as failing to pass first-time can mean having to take the new and improved, yet harder, CBT and OSCE! To make sure you walk into your exam centres with confidence that you will pass, book your course today!
