Are our OSCE courses long enough to pass?

Are our OSCE courses long enough to pass?

One of the questions we often hear at IELTS Medical is about our NMC OSCE: people are sometimes concerned if 3-, 4-, 5-, or 7-days will be enough. The answer is… it depends! Keep reading to discover more, and I can guarantee you that you will be positively surprised.

Sometimes our nurses and midwives will consider the training that NHS Trusts offer in-house for 4-8 weeks and wonder whether IELTS Medical NMC OSCE short courses will be enough. However, comparing OSCE training between an NHS Trust and our own does not take into account a fundamental aspect: the fact that NHS Trusts provide training in a package to very large groups of international staff, which might be time-consuming and will not give you the chance to focus on your skills and mistakes. This means that some of the 4-8 weeks will be spent learning Trust-specific policies and undergoing orientation and Trust-specific training, as well as waiting for individualised attention.

Here at IELTS Medical, our OSCE training is pure. Pure OSCE training delivered intensively across 3-, 4-, 5-, or 7- days. That is the main difference, and it is likely to be the reason why many nurses come to us for training, considering our highly trained Educators that work in the field and constantly keep up to date with the latest NMC changes.

Our outstanding 3-, 4-, 5-, or 7-day NMC OSCE courses have seen many, many nurses and midwives passing the NMC OSCE examination on the first attempt. It is, in fact, what we aim to do for every nurse and midwife in every course: we strive for a 100% pass rate, and we support each of our students throughout until the big day… you will not be left alone after the training! We do this in several ways, for example: by providing our learners with up-to-date information; by continuously improving and updating our course materials on a regular basis; by using the most innovative and technological tools to make the courses interactive and fun; by connecting our nurses to other test takers and creating what we call “OSCE Families”; by remaining accessible and contactable 24 hours a day and 7 days a week; by creating Practice Rooms and spaces for our nurses to pop in and practice… the list of ways we go above and beyond for our nurses is endless, trust us on this.

So now, what is the difference between the 3-, 4-, 5-, and 7-day courses? Our excellent NMC OSCE is in-person, and it includes: Day 1 APIE and all documentation; Day 2 of all the current skills; Day 3 a full mock exam and following debrief session. Some of our nurses or midwives return for a 4th or 5th day either straight after the 3-day training or closer to their exam to consolidate their knowledge in small groups of three.

Also, we have a brand new 7-day OSCE training, which consists of: Day 1, APIE and all documentation; Day 2, 3 & 4 of all the current skills; Day 5, a full mock exam and following debrief session; Day 6 of all the current skills; Day 7 a second mock exam. With the 7-day course, the nurses will have ample amount of time to practice all the skills needed and be confident and fully prepared for the exam. Included in all OSCE courses, you will be provided with a wide range of services:

· pre-course material sent to your home address;

· textbook, notepad, and pen;

· breakfast on Day 1;

· goodie bag (including a fob watch!);

· access to our premium Learner's Portal, where you can see all the online materials as well, such as videos and checklists for each station and skill;

· access to a WhatsApp support group with an educator, where you can ask any questions even after the training. We don't leave our students on their own after the training. We support them throughout until they pass their OSCE exam.
