A more ethnically diverse register

Recently, the NMC register of nurses, midwives, and nursing associates has grown to a record level of 771,445 – an increase of 13,144 (1.7%); most of these were educated in India, the Philippines, and Nigeria, bringing more ethnically diverse professionals. The NMC is calling on employers to deliver tailored support to integrate new professionals into their teams. 

While the number of international healthcare professionals rises steeply, the number of UK-educated professionals joining the register is growing at a lower rate, but it is still higher if compared. Of these UK joiners, 23.6% are from Black, Asian, and minority ethnic backgrounds. With more international professionals joining the register, and with UK joiners becoming more ethnically diverse, the ethnic profile of the NMC register is changing. All these changes mean that it is even more important for employers to be sensitive to the needs of different groups and provide appropriate, tailored support to help them succeed.
