5 Tips On How To Pass The OSCE Exam

To pass your OSCE exam we have written some more tips which could help you get through your exams. There are a lot of things to take in so make sure that you read the following points and make notes!

1. (Feedback) You may have learnt lessons or received comments on areas where you might have improved if you've previously participated in an OSCE course or exam. Feedback has been shown to be a powerful tool for learning, and it may help you identify particular areas where you can improve in the future when you are in a similar situation in your job. Take use of the chance to act on that input, but don't assume that your future OSCE will be same to prior ones. You'll probably encounter new stations, circumstances, and new examiners.

2. (Reading time before the station) There is a period of reading time before you enter each station in your OSCE. The reading time is a period of around 5 minutes during which you, the candidate, are informed about the situation. It provides you time to think about how you'll handle the situation depending on the information you've been provided about the patient you'll be meeting. Concentrate on the station ahead of you, pay attention to the material provided to you prior to the station, search for anything unusual and mentally prepare what you will do when the station begins. This is critical in terms of situational awareness. Achieving situational awareness helps you to rapidly grasp what's going on and aids in making sound judgments.

3. (Confidence) Of course, you won't be a nurse or midwife until you finish your final examinations and graduate, but reminding yourself that you are a nurse might help you feel more confident when preparing for an OSCE. Imagining yourself on the wards, talking to and counselling patients is incredibly helpful for your preparation and examination mindset.

4. (Act) An OSCE is, at its core, a performance. An OSCE scenario can be performed out at home with friends, family, or other students playing the parts of patient actors, much like an actor in a play who strives for perfection by going over a scene time and time again until the words come out without thinking. The hint is in the name of the "patients" you'll be interacting with in your OSCE; they're called "actors," and you're one of them. To truly mimic the experience, you may even ask someone to act as a fake examiner. It's one of the reasons that we provide Mock OSCEs for our nurses to assist you to prepare for the actual examinations.

5. (Courses) Make sure that you book an OSCE training course with us so that you have the most experience and preparation at your side, guiding you through the exam. We provide a wealth of resources to our nurses that will prepare you to conquer your NMC OSCE exams.

We hope you found this guide helpful! All the (now) reigstered nurses we've trained to pass their exams all did similar things that helped them pass. We have written these in a list so that you can pass your OSCE exam on your first try too.
