5 Steps to mental wellbeing... Coffee and a Chat at IELTS Medical

According to the NHS website there are 5 steps you are able to take to help improve your mental health and wellbeing. Having a go at theses things can make you feel more positive.

1.     Connect with other people - have a tea/coffee and a chat - having good relationships with other people whether that is your family members, friends or neighbours is important for your mental wellbeing. They can:

·       Help you build a sense of belonging and self-worth

·       Give you an opportunity to share experiences

·       Provide emotional support and allow you to support others

2.     Be physically active – being active is not only great for your physical health and fitness. You can do this by:

·       Going to the gym

·       Going out on walks in your local park

·       Swimming

3.     Learn new skills - research shows that learning new skills can also improve your mental wellbeing by:

·       Boosting self confidence and raising self-esteem

·       Helping you to build a sense of purpose

·       Helping you to connect with others

 

4.     You can learn new things by trying to learn how to cook a new recipe, trying new hobbies that challenge you for example writing a blog or taking up a new sport.

      Give to others - kindness can help improve your mental wellbeing by:

·       Creating positive feeling and a sense of reward

·       Giving you a feeling of purpose and self-worth

·       Helping you connect with other people

 Acts of kindness could be as small as something such as volunteering for example at a school, hospital or care home. Spending time with family or friends that need your support.

5.     Pay attention to the present moment - paying attention to the present moment can develop your mental wellbeing. This includes your feelings and thoughts. This can help you enjoy your life more and understand yourself better. This will impact you positively and change the way you feel about life and how you approach challenges.
